"When Care Feels Out of Reach"
This week, a Bancroft resident shares how limited healthcare services impact seniors in rural communities.
“I’ve been in Bancroft for over 30 years, and it’s a beautiful place to live. It's quiet, and very close to nature, something I love! But as I’ve gotten more older, I’ve realized how far away basic healthcare can be. Our local clinic is great, but it’s often booked weeks in advance. If you need to see a specialist, you’re looking at an hour or two of driving, and that’s only if you can find someone to take you. It’s not just the distance; it’s the waiting. Sometimes, by the time you finally get the appointment, the problem’s gotten worse.”
What would help?
“More visiting healthcare professionals in rural areas. There needs to be more doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and most of all...easier access to virtual appointments for those of us with mobility issues. Healthcare should feel close, not like a vacation you have to plan weeks ahead.”

Ontario Investing $89 Million to Help People Age Safely at Home!
The Community Paramedicine for Long-Term Care (CPLTC) program is here to stay. As of early August 2025, the province has committed $89 million to make this vital service permanent.
CPLTC provides 24/7, non-emergency medical care right in seniors’ homes. This is including routine diagnostics, treatments, and wellness checks. The goal is to help older adults remain independent, avoid unnecessary hospital visits, and enjoy a better quality of life.
Since its launch in 2020, the program has already supported over 81,000 seniors, delivering more than 310,000 hours of care across the province. With permanent funding, even more seniors will have access to timely, in-home support tailored to their needs.
